The Area

Shore Edge is located in a stunning position with uninterrupted views over the beautiful sandy beach of Portreath and its historic harbour.

The village of Portreath is situated on the South West Coast Path on the North Coast of Cornwall between the busier destinations of St.Ives and St. Agnes. It is known for its friendly and thriving local community and lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is also a designated World Heritage Site on account of its rich mining history and the once busy harbour. The harbour is now home to a few fishing boats that sell their catches locally.

The beach is popular with surfers, body boarders and swimmers. The latter can enjoy the tidal rock pool or the smaller harbour side beach if sea conditions are too rough. On calmer days kayaking and paddle boarding are popular. On stormy days the house is the perfect place to hunker down and watch the spectacular waves.

Porthtowan and Gwithian beaches are both just a short drive away. As well as being on the South West Coast Path, the village benefits from local woodland walks in Illogan Woods to the East of the village and the extensive Tehidy Country Park and nature reserve. All in easy walking distance. Tehidy also has an 18-hole golf course.

There is a network of mining trails which you can walk or cycle from the house. Whether you are exploring the mining heritage of Redruth and Cambourne or taking the Coast to Coast trail from Portreath on the North Coast to Devoran on the South Coast (12 miles) they are a beautiful way to get to know this part of Cornwall.

Portreath itself has 3 pubs and 3 cafe/bars. There is a village shop for top up supplies and a bakery. There is a surf shop where you can buy or rent anything you need for the water. They also organise surf lessons. Larger supermarkets and amenities can be found in Redruth and Pool.
